Tyrone

Station Eleven

Tyrone is the lone TSA agent who remains at Severn City Airport during its first months of isolation. A capable hunter and later a member of the airport’s first scouting party, he helps turn the stranded community’s uncertainty into practical action and helps control its first encounter with an armed outsider.

At the Airport

As people gradually leave the airport, Tyrone is the only TSA agent still there. By Day Eight, no new arrivals have come, nobody who left has returned, and no more planes or helicopters have landed. With the group hungry and the airport’s future uncertain, Tyrone’s ability to hunt becomes an immediate resource.

He goes into the trees with a woman who formerly worked as a park ranger, carrying two TSA-issued handguns. They return with a deer. The group cooks the venison over a fire and shares it at sunset, alongside the last of the champagne. The episode establishes Tyrone through a concrete contribution: in a place where ordinary supplies and services are disappearing, his knowledge helps feed the people who remain.

The Day One Hundred Expedition

Much later, Tyrone joins the airport’s first scouting party, which sets out at dawn on Day One Hundred. His companions are Dolores and Allen, a schoolteacher from Chicago. The decision is debated: the group has managed to kill enough deer to live on and has what it needs, barely, but it has run out of soap and batteries. Beyond the airport, the scouts might find supplies, the pandemic, or dangerous survivors.

The party leaves armed with Tyrone’s TSA handgun and carrying road maps. The expedition returns with supplies, including napkins and bottles of Tabasco sauce, hauled in carts past a roadblock. Dolores describes the airport coming into view between the trees as a return home, conveying the relief that the successful journey brings to those waiting there. Tyrone’s role in the expedition connects his earlier hunting skill to the community’s broader effort to secure necessities beyond the airport grounds.

The First Stranger

After the scouts return, the airport’s residents begin posting guards with whistles so they can be warned when someone approaches. The first stranger appears on the road beneath low grey skies, holding a gun. Tyrone shouts for him to drop it. The man lets the weapon fall, raises his hands, and waits as people gather around him.

The encounter gives Tyrone a brief but consequential role in the airport’s defensive response: his warning helps bring the armed arrival under control before the group tries to understand who he is and why he has come. The stranger eventually explains that he had been in the hotel and followed the group’s footprints in the snow. Tyrone is not presented as the leader of the airport community, but across these episodes he is repeatedly positioned where its survival depends on practical competence—first in finding food, then in venturing out for supplies, and finally in responding to an unfamiliar person at the entrance.
